Employee leaves and the very next day is rehired - can payments be processed on the original record

Hi

I'm trying to understand that when an employee ends one employment one day e.g. 15th May and returns the next as a re-hire e.g. 16th May, is it still possible to process payments via the payroll for the employment ending on 15th May? If it is how can this be managed?
