How to increase the data size in the data definition?

The users are asking to increase the number of characters of the description field. Currently, I'm not able to achieve this in the uDesigner/Data Definition.

Creating new custom description field to replace the existing field will impact the existing records in production created using the old forms.

The only way to achieve it is to copy the forms and create new workflows with the new forms. This very complicated way, is there any easier way?
