Tablespace has reached the max datafile limit and datafiles are at full capacity!

Very recently, one of our tablespaces reached maximum capacity. That is, the datafile limit of 1023 has been reached and each datafile is maxed at 32GB. I was advised by the previous DBA that moving over to ASM would help resolve this issue. Unfortunately, ASM migration did not solve it as we were still getting hit with ORA-01654, ORA-01686 and ORA-01144.

I have already rebuilt our largest indexes into a new tablespace to free up old space for the time being but it wont last long.

The solution I am looking at now is to create a new database with a higher block size so we can create larger datafiles. Once created, I will export our current database over to the new database.
