why are there two translate values for EXPENSE LINE STATUS one is 'DEN' and other is 'DNC' both mean

why are there two translate values for EXPENSE LINE STATUS one is 'DEN' and other is 'DNC' both means DENIED. why do we need 'DNC' ? peoplesoft expense line line number save prechange has a code to check if status is 'DEN' then check the ISCHANGED property and make it 'DNC' what does it mean functionally when processing through an interface (not online)
