Applying the database 12c PSU Combo Patch with Standby database

Hi,

I am about to apply the April 2019 Database  PSU patch to the our production servers. The production environment is composed of a primary database and a standby database. I am applying both the database patch and the OJVM patch. If applying both the OJVM patch I have to start the database in upgrade mode. I was wondering how starting the database in upgrade will affect the replication to the standby when I run the datapatch command.

Note that I have the steps for applying the PSU patch to the an environment like mine. However all the documentation I see speak about starting the primary database in normal mode not in upgrade mode before running datapatch.
