Why did Oracle change the last ship date for Exadata Database Machine?

The last ship date for some models of the Exadata Database Machine appears to have changed recently, potentially impacting the end-of-life date for Exadata hardware.

For example, in April 2019, the document (HW_LSP_chart_Apr_2019_LSD.pdf) listed the last ship date for Exadata Database Machine X5-2 as Feb 2017. However, checking the latest version (HW_LSP_chart_July_2019_LSD.pdf), it is now listed as July 2016, eight months earlier. With the five years support offered by Oracle, this would appear to reduce the supported life of X5 machines by eight months.

Is this normal, and how do companies plan for end-of-life hardware refreshes with this uncertainty?

Howdy, Stranger!
