Can I use an Inbound 856,(ASN), to ship confirm a sales order?

We have created a sales order in E1.  We are receiving EDI X12 856s from a third party for goods that they have been shipped against that sales order/customer PO.  I want to know if I can use this inbound 856 ASN to update the sales order, ship confirm it.  Does E1 have this functionality?
