in Inventory Items (APC/PLM/PIM) - EBS (MOSC) Question

We are seeing that a specific item cross reference with reference type - SS_ITEM_XREF is automatically created in EBS when ever we implement an EC/MC for those items from Agile. Is this part of standard process, if yes what is the objective of this reference type.
