Has anyone successfully used the Cumulative function in calculation rules?

I have created a simple calculation rule in Calculation Manager for HFM 11.1.2.4 which contains just one calculation, using the Cumulative function to accumulate the prior 12 periods' values for an account.  The syntax (apart from account codes) matches the examples in the Oracle documentation.  I saved, validated and deployed it successfully, yet it appears to have no effect on the data, producing no results and no errors.  In case I'd written it wrong, I also tried to use the Designer view to create it, but the Cumulative function is not available for selection and is not recognised when typed
