Increase the timeout session when using HTTPS/SSL

When we implemented SSL/HTTPS and the sessions time out around 5 minutes. The regular non SSL HTTP sessions time out after more than an hour. I've tried to find documentation about where to modify or edit to increase the session timeout on HTTPS. Can't really find anything. I've looked at the JAS.INI and it has a session timeout for regular http connection. But where can you extend the SSL/HTTPS sessions?
