Un-committing hard committed sales orders

We have the following situation:

1) Orders are entered (Some with work orders and serial numbers), picked and hard committed

2) Business wants to un-commit this inventory so it can re-package, re-pick and re-load the shipment.

The only clean way I know to do this is to cancel and re-enter the order.  Does anyone know of a better way to do this?
