How can inventory turnover ratio be used in business?

Hi

Is there any document which explains the benefits of  inventory turnover? What is the ideal ratio? How can companies diagnose this to benefit from this? On Oracle support, I could get document '625469.1'. This explains the steps on how to confugure and run Inventory Turn report but doesn't have information on how to benefit from this ratio. Will appreciate your input on this. Thanks in advance
