Report interconnect for specific version

I would like to build a report-interconnect to be version specific, for example R55parent... VER001 to call R55child...VER001 in 9.2 toolset. Does that entail version override? In that situation particularly to be version specific, what happens if the base report is modified, will that be different than the version override?
