User define AM Schedules

Has any one use "User Define Schedules" for AM depreciation.  If so what is best practice and must do's other than : Build Schedule, define Asset Profile to read (*Method of Depreciation Schedule) and then select the Schedule from drop down.  When I do this and add an asset for this new profile, it is not picking up the schedule rates I enter into the schedule.  Any idea what I miss or need to do next.
