Difference between Total Sockets Opened and Active Threads in Weblogic

Dears,

I am trying to understand what is the difference between Total Sockets Opened in Console and Active Threads  (Which also can be seen through Console in Monitoring tab by calculating (Execute Thread Total Count - Standby Thread Count - Execute Thread Idle Count ) .

Both this counts always differ . Is there is any link between these two and which is more critical to monitor.
