Role based access for Delegation of Approvals

Is it possible to configure user security based on the Roles with the order approval tasks?

We currently have individual user access defined in User Roles and separate approval access via the AB #.

Now we have a proposal from management to put all that into a Role based access, so, say if the GM is to delegate his order approvals, he should be able to delegate to a role instead of an individual. Thoughts?
