Why is it so difficult to delete a period

in Hyperion Financial Close Management (FCM) (MOSC)

It is a very tedious task to delete a period, especially if there is a prior period involved.  Deleting profiles, reconciliations, delete and wait.. and wait..  Are there any short cuts to deleting a period or some sort of SQL we could run?  Very manual process...
