Updating Promoted UDOs - Does promotion to PD release the token?

I recently promoted a large package of shared UDOs to the production environment including composed pages, queries, watchlists, and personal forms. These shared UDOs were created as the corporate standard layout for the users. Over 150 items all considered. As one would expect, a change was requested on a promoted personal form not long after promotion. As I attempted to make the change, I was surprised to find the UDO still being held by the original promotion package.
