Migration to ASMFD does not discover EMC powerpath disks

Hi Experts,

Oracle 12.2.0.1 EE Restart configuration    

Linux 7

While attempting to migrate to ASMFD  the filter driver does not discover the disks.  The existing ASM disks are serviced from an EMC SAN using power path.  I tried setting the afd_diskstring to multiple wildcards and direct path to a disk with no luck in discovery.  In order for business operations to continue I had to revert back to ASMlib in the interim.  I was following MOS doc 2172754.1.  I stalled on step 9 because I could not get the ASMFD to discover the existing disks that were functional under ASMlib.

I am wondering if anyone else has experienced this issue and if so how did you resolve?
