Data Model Error: ‘Failed to load XML.'

Hello,

When creating a new data model, using Chrome and Internet Explorer, at the step where I go to generate and save the sample data, an error message is generated; ‘Failed to load XML.'

On viewing the View Engine Log the explanation is inconsistent (going from syntax error to column length violation when a change is made to a very basic query) so it is not pointing to what could be the reason for the error.

Can anyone point me in the right direction to resolve this error?
