Can rman recovery catalog schema 19c be created in a 12c database?

Hello,

Can an Can rman recovery catalog schema 19c  be created in a 12c database to backup a 19c  target?

I have only currently rman catalogs in 12c databse and plan to install 19c target .

I am wondering if I can still use the current 12c catalog or if I have to upgrade my 12c catalog database to 19c as well;
