Currency Symbol Displaying on some Users' machines

Any ideas...

On IE ... some of our users are seeing a "$" being displayed in front of the value in a list applet.

The list applet has several columns of currency values. Unfortunately, the columns are all displaying the "$" for some users when it should NOT be displayed.

2 application servers and 2 web servers using load balancing on both levels.
