BI Publisher Report with Excel Template Throws Error oracle.xdo.servlet.data.DataException: java.lan

I have created a BI publisher report that uses an excel template.  Executing the data model to get sample data works fine.  However when I execute the report, I get the following error message.

Detail Message:

  ::RIPPLE_OUTPUT_FAILED::[INSTANCE_ID=bip.bi_serverHA] [OUTPUT_ID=865205] oracle.xdo.servlet.data.DataException: java.lang.ArrayIndexOutOfBoundsException: -1::[INSTANCE_ID=bip.bi_serverHA]
