Payroll Sizes

We currently process over 20 bi-weekly payrolls.  Currently each has an average of 2500 employees.  We are looking to consolidate these to larger payrolls. We are wondering if companies process multiple smaller payrolls (as we do now) or single large payrolls (as we are looking to do).  Looking for pros vs cons of processing sizes.
