What is the use of Alternate Ledgers in Book Controls setup?

Hi,

In EBS R12.2 Assets, there is a new tab 'Ledgers' in Book Controls setup. I would like to understand what is the use of Alternate Ledgers in Book Controls > Ledgers?

Is it same as secondary ledger?
