ASM constraint on upgrading from 12.1.0.2 to 18c
My current system is running 12.1.0.2 Std Ed 2 with ASM (Oracle Restart) 12.1.0.2 on Oracle Linux 6.
Looking at the next upgrade.
First, it is my understanding that '18c' is really a marketing label for 12.2.0.2, and likewise 19c is the marketing label for 12.2.0.3.
Now, looking at the Database Installation Guide 18c, Chapter 10 - "Installing Oracle Grid Infrastructure for a Standalone Server for an Existing Database" I read this:
Oracle Restart can manage resources from the same release and releases up to one version lower than Oracle Restart. For instance, you can install Oracle Grid Infrastructure for a standalone server 18c (Oracle Restart) to provide services for Oracle Database 18c and Oracle Database 12.2. Earlier Oracle Database releases can coexist on the same server without being managed by Oracle Restart.
