Necessity of adpreclone.pl when EBS 12.1.3 upgrade

Hi,

Our customer have a plan to upgrade their EBS from 12.1.2 to 12.1.3.

And we are confriming the following doc.

・Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12.1.3 Readme ( Doc ID 1080973.1 )

In the above document, the following pre-clone script execution is described as a mandatory step.

perl adpreclone.pl dbTier

perl adpreclone.pl appsTier

Our customer will execute Rapid Clone on another day(Not the event of upgrade).

Is it really necessary to run adpreclone.pl for EBS upgrades?

If it's manfatory,please tell me the specific reason.
