Java Licensing

What is the status of Java licensing requirements for use with JDE and/or the Oracle Technology stack for JDE?  The scope of this question encompasses Java components used on all JDE WebDev clients, Application servers, and Web servers (e.g. WLS), etc.  Oracle's recent announcements regarding the end of updates and 'free' use of certain Java products (JDK/JRE 8), and the requirement to buy licenses (subscription model) for these products for commercial use (and non-commercial use come Dec. 2020), is the reason for these questions.
