Is it possible to return indirect results to a different pay period?

We process employee expense claims through payroll using the internet expenses module and a custom interface. This has worked well for us for a number of years as expenses are paid monthly along with salaries. Now part of our business wants expenses to be paid each week which we're able to accommodate using an element set and an assignment set to run a supplementary payroll but taxable expenses are proving to be a bit of a challenge;
a) tax refunds are generated in the expense run paid before the normal salary pay date (we knew this would happen);
