Azure SQL Supported Configurations

We are looking to move our 9.2 JD Edwards environment into Microsoft Azure, as we plan this out I would be interested to know if either Azure SQL Database or Azure SQL Managed Instance are supported for the JDE Database or is the only supported option to install a VM with a OS and Install of SQL Server?
