External Data Set with >65k rows that supports linking?

I have an external data set of about ~80k records that I need to pull in to link to a BI Pub SQL data set for some querying. BI Publisher data sets support a few formats that allow for uploading of a file -- like CSV, XML, Excel.

CSV and XML do not appear to support data linking. Excel does -- but BI Publisher is still stuck using the Excel 2003 format which is limited to 65,536 rows. Testing with a smaller data set, I'm able to do exactly what I want to do in my query, I just can't find a format that supports >65k records and also allows data linking.
