11i, 10G db, rehat 5.

I have an old 11i instance that will be archived. It will still be running just not updated.

There are 254 GSM processes like this running.  I opened an SR but it didn't go anywhere.  What is creating these and how do i lower the number.  I could see there being 3 of these processes as they are all associated with a log but the number grows for some unknown reason.
