Coupon based discounts?

Dear Gurus

Please suggest how we define the Coupon based discounts?

1. When the Coupons a just a code that can applied while buying

2. When the coupons are physical that are provided in the shop while buying

Also want to know when the coupons are:

1. For specific item only

2. When coupons are for discounts on certain purchase price

3. When coupons are used irrespective of order amount

4. Combination of two or more of above
