How to adjust "Current Open Cursors Count" metric.

Today I received first time warning for metric.

Metrics "Current Open Cursors Count" is at 1,228.

I did not receive any "ORA-01000 maximum open cursors exceeded". The number of Open Cursors per session is as high as 72.

I understand that this metric is different than Open Cursors per session.

I want to understand and adjust this metric for my database.

My question is :

1) What exactly does it count?

2) How can I see the current value of "Current Open Cursors Count".

Monitoring the current value can help me adjust the metric.
