Minimum power connections per PDU for quarter rack?

A few years ago when we installed our first eighth rack Exadata, I found a reference that only 1 whip per single-phase PDU was required to power it, although PDU monitoring required at least 2 whips.   We are planning for a quarter rack (X8M-2) in the near future.  Will one whip per PDU be sufficient or will it require at least 2?  Is this documented anywhere?
