BEN100A snapshot table refresh - date question

I'm wondering what date is recommended to be used when running the snapshot refresh.  Business area runs 834 HIPAA extracts weekly and runs snapshot update first.  I thought I read in documentation somewhere that you should not use the current date in the field when running BEN100a?  Curious why that is?  If they are running week-to-week I thought the snapshot date should be "today" if running today.  Thank you!
