Customized GSS transaction and lost the ability to update the DB

Hello, Community!

We made a customization to dynamically update the Full-Part-Time indicator based on the number of hours that are being entered for the change. So now the hours change from 40 to 20, for example, not only updates the FTE from 1.0 to .5, but the FT/PT field changes to Part-Time from Full-Time.

However, we've found that in further testing we have lost the ability to send the transaction data to the database automatically. In other words, we lost the top option seen below:

We've checked all of the other setup for the transaction against our Demo database and can't see anything else different. Has anyone made a customization to a GSS transaction and had a similar result? What did you do to get around it?
