re my communications messaging with instant messaging and convergence demo:

I have installed the messaging server and convergence. I have also installed instant messaging. I have 2 domains  eg div1.example.com and div2.example.com . my default domain domain is example.com

I can send email to users between the domains. how do I set instant messaging to recognise that that a user is online. all the buddy contacts I try to setup show "status ! no subscription" and are not recognised as being online even if they are. I've tried the "configuring multiple domains" as shown in the convergence administration manual ... to no avail.

Is there something I am missing out completely
