Extracting LONG RAW data.

I am working on getting some data out of a third party application that is due to be retired shortly.

I’m having difficulty in extracting images which are held in a LONG RAW column. Since coming across this, I’ve discovered that Oracle were advising against using this column type since 1998, but this column obviously hasn’t been changed since. The database has been upgraded a number of times and is currently at 12.1.0.2.

I’ve been following the instructions given in doc 1433573.1 and seen a few variants on this method, but I’m getting the same output whatever the method.
