DB version 11.2.0.3 rman backup fails with ORA-03113

DB version 11.2.0.3

Full RMAN error is: RMAN-06004: ORACLE error from recovery catalog database: ORA-03113: end-of-file on communication channel ORACLE error from recovery catalog database: ORA-03114: not connected to ORACLE. 

The rman.rc_backup_datafile table shows STATUS=A and marked_corrupt=0 for the datafiles.

What is the best way to verify the backup?
