Project as segment in COA -R12.1.3 - Need Advice

Good Morning To All

Currently we are using  Projects Billing, Costing, Management modules -R12.1.3.

In our  COA - Project Number is also a segment.

Recently when discussing with fellow consultants,  he  said -  maintaining Project No. as one of segment value is not required.

For example we are maintaining supplier in AP and customer in AR - but  we are not keeping customer/supplier in segment value. In the same way Project also a sub ledger  module  and we should maintain everything within project module.

Can you suggest with pros and cons for this - which is better  - keeping project as segment or without project segement.
