Who can explain the line numbers / position mentioned in oracle error messages?

We are using the BI Publisher template builder for Word. When validating a template often errors are mentioned with a reference to a kind of line number, like ":?> at [Line 562.227]:"

Can someone explain me if and how those references are related to the content in the RTF template? In my opinion it should facilitate error solving?
