Unable to see watermark in the PDF output file.

I'm using Word for Office 365 and the 12.2 release for 64 bit, and I can create the watermark in the RTF file, but unable to see the watermark in the PDF output. What is causing the incompatibility? Does anyone have a similar result and is there a workaround to be able to see the watermark in the PDF file
