How to prevent Material Workbench inquiry from running for 7+ minutes when searching on Description

When users in our EBS R12.2.5 environment sign in using the responsibility INVENTORY INQUIRY and open the MATERIAL WORKBENCH menu item, they will enter a search for the item based on the item's description (which they know) rather than the actual item number.  We have three items with descriptions that begin with the characters MV.  But if the users enters MV% in the description dialog box, the application searches for over seven minutes before returning the three matching records.  Is there a parameter setting or index update that needs to be utilized to remedy this?   Thank you very much for
