Transfer Asset to New Asset Category

I’m about to create a new Asset Category in Fixed Assets and then transfer a single asset from it’s existing Asset Category to a the new Asset Category that gets created.  The new Asset Category will have a different Life than the Asset Category it is being transferred from.  Will the system automatically adjust the depreciation when we transfer to the New Asset Category?
