Transfer part of an asset to create another new asset (with own tag et al)

We are trying to transfer part of an asset to another location.  Example sections of a machine (created as a single asset in FA) may be dismantled and moved to another location.  We would like to treat the moved asset as separate asset. 

Can we use partial retirement and "trade-in" function to do that.  Any idea.  We don't mind creating a "zero" asset beforehand for the 'trade-in" as the trade-in asset must be an existing asset in oracle.
