Can I do ZERO downtime patching in EBS12.2 with 2 application tiers?

This is a lot of detail below, but I will help set the context..

Our company is upgrading from R12.1.3 from R12.2.9 by mid-year. We currently have 2 node RAC (in an Oracle ODA) and 2 middle tiers. Right now the middle tiers were set up "old school" style, with 1 handling all the concurrent requests, and all users are told to use the other one. There is really no need for that kind of a setup any more given current processors, so I want to change it so that when we go live on R12.2 we put our F5 in front of the 2 tiers, give out the F5 URL to users, and
