Prenote date automatically populated

Recently, the bank details for a rehired employee were entered in error on a new employee with the same name. The Prenote date auto-populated with the prenote date from the rehired employee's pre-termination payment method. We expect this is due to the fact that the bank details exist as already prenoted. Is this expected functionality? I don't see any documentation covering auto-populating Prenote dates in such a way.
