Backup database for standby

Hi All,

I am currently involved in a tech-refresh project, and as a part of this project I need to setup a 2-node RAC (Oracle 12.1.0.2), on IBM AIX 7.1.

I plan to backup the current production database, also the same version as mentioned above, using RMAN backup for standby, and recover this on the target as standby and then sync with the existing production. 

The reason for this approach is that the new servers are in a different physical location and the network bandwidth is not good enough for me to use duplicate.  But, I will enable the log shipping and sync with the production once this is done.
