kdump dependence on /var available space

edited Aug 7, 2024 4:55AM in Linux Operating System (MOSC) 1 commentAnswered

Any time I update a Lin server kernel I see such messages which hint on having /var free available space set greater than RAM.

I did not find any explicit recommendation from Oracle, thus appreciate someone share their insights with this surely known situation.

Apparently in given example the server /var available space is smaller than RAM: 4GB vs. 2GB

I wonder what would be best practices from Oracle, and if that makes great sense to store kdump files on one dedicated remote system for all Lin servers.

I am not sure if under the crash condition kdump would still manages to write its dump file on remote system at all.

Howdy, Stranger!
